While breast cancer in African American women happens at lower rates than other women, black women are much more likely to contract a much more aggressive form of the cancer:breast-cancer

…a new study finds they are 3 times more likely than women of other races to develop more aggressive breast cancer.

It’s also more likely to return after treatment and has a less favorable outcome.

The study in the journal Breast Cancer Research found the odds of black women having something called a triple negative tumor were 3 times higher for black women diagnosed before or after age 50 regardless of weight.

The sad part is that scientists really have no answer why this agressive form of breast cancer is more prevalent in black women. Breast cancer in African American women is serious business and one would hope that the research funds would be in place to figure out the “whys” behind why we’re more susceptible to these types tumors.
